Rust Welcomes You to the Jungle in Latest Update

The latest update for Rust is now live. It adds the first new biome to the game and it's none other than the Jungle.

The jungle biome covers part of the temperate coastal (tier 0) area where the new players spawn. Compared to other biomes, the terrain in this one is flatter, has a higher river density, and thicker foliage.

The new biome features a large variety of completely new foliage that include new types of bushes like bromeliads and monstera. There are also new undergrowth plants that include arrowroot and calathea. Players can also see new trees which are the trumpet trees, jungle palms and sandbox trees. The biggest of them is the kapok trees which players can climb and swing from.

Vine Swinging

Speaking of swinging, there's a new type of tree that players can encounter which are covered in vines. They can climb these trees and reach branches that provide a new vantage point. There are interactive vines on a lot of these branches that let players swing from one branch to another and allow them to travel significant distances in the jungle without needing to touch the ground.

Compared to other forms of aerial transportation like ziplines, vines move from one location to another. This means that those who are travelling as a team need to throw the vine back to their friends after using them so they can follow them. Players can also use a vine to quickly, safely, and quietly go down to the jungle floor.

Remnants and Ruins

Among the towering trees and thick undergrowth, there's a chance players stumble across small jungle monuments. Each one holds a glimpse into a forgotten past. These include the Jungle Ziggurat, a weathered stone structure with its own mysteries, and a scattering of ancient jungle ruins left behind by a long-lost civilization.

There are also new Jungle Ruins which are small monuments that's packed with atmosphere and early-game loot. It's Perfect for a quick stop while exploring. Players can find low-tier supplies and possibly a few surprises tucked away among the overgrown ruins.
